3.8.2 How to access Compulsory Education
Compulsory Education in Spain is made up of Primary Education, from 6 to 12 years old and Compulsory Secondary Education (E.S.O.) from 12 to 16 years old.
This education is PUBLIC, COMPULSORY AND FREE: all immigrants between the ages of 6 and 16 must enrol and attend a school. They are also entitled to access the public scholarship system whether their parents’ and their own administrative situation is regularized or not.
To enrol in a school you generally must submit the following documents. The school where you plan to enrol your children will indicate if you need to submit any others as well:
• Medical certificate
• Family Book
• Passport photo
• Immunization Schedule
• Formalize payment of tuition.
• Formalize payment of the student insurance fee and school materials.
• Formalize payment of enrolment fees.
