5.3.1 Welcoming plans for deaf inmigrant students body

 

1. Welcoming plans of the centers (Adapted Information by CNSE (The National Confederation for Deaf People) of the Education Division of CC.OO Trade Union) 

1.-The whole deaf immigrant student body, regardless of their curricular and linguistic level, needs a Welcoming Program.
2.- A “Welcoming Plan of the center” is a group of decisions gathered in a document which, in some way, answers questions such as: What would we do when deaf students come to our school from a different culture? Who will do it? How and when will we do it? And all this with a clear goal: to ease adaptation of the new pupil in the center and at streets, where he/she is going to interact with kids of his/her school and neighborhood; and in the community where he/she is going to live with his/her family.
3.-They must be in accordance with the Educational Project of the Center and with the Curricular Project, even if it means adapting institutional documents. 
4.-The Plan of the Center must guarantee the creation of areas of communication and relationships between teachers and the own student body. And in this communication, assign a tutor for the pupil.
5.-The Plan of the Center must necessarily involve the whole educational community, fathers, mothers, non-working staff, services and institutions of the district. A special mention requires the level of commitment of the Commission of Attention to Diversity or of the Compensatory Team.
6.-It requires to give deaf families and students body basic information about how the center works to improve the participation of families in the whole educational process, to detect and know their educational work’s expectations and the basic knowledge of the new students body to work out the particular curriculum and, when appropriate, the necessary supports in different areas or in the language.
7.-It is advisable to begin before school begins to guide families, formalize the enrollment and to be able to prepare the Welcoming Plan. 
8.-External approval, training and means are necessary to personalize the Plan and be able to think about the decisions taken.
