3.8.3 How to access University

You or your children can access University if you are in good legal standing and meet one of the following requirements:

Having completed Bachillerato and having passed thePrueba de Acceso a la Universidad (PAU) (University Access Examination)
Having completed a Vocational Training Cycle
Being over 25 and having passed the Prueba de Acceso para Mayores de 25 años (University Access for people over 25)
Being over 45 and having Prueba de Acceso para Mayores de 45 años (University Access for people over 45)
Through the approval or recognition of foreign qualifications.

All immigrants under the age of 18 are entitled to access the public scholarship system under the same conditions as Spanish minors, whether their parents’ and their own administrative situation is regularized or not.

However, people over 18 only have access to the public scholarship system if they are in good legal standing.

Remember:

- Education in Spain is public and compulsory between the ages of 6 and 16

- Your children under the age of 18 are entitled to compulsory and after-compulsory education (Bachillerato) even if they do not hold a residence permit.

- If you are over 18 and a legal resident, you can access Bachillerato, University or the School of Languages.

- Enrolment is done the previous school year, but if you have arrived in Spain once the school year has started you can enrol your children during a special time limit. Get information at your school or town hall.

- When formalizing enrolment you must also request the other services that the school provides (dining room service, school transport, after school activities, etc.)

- Scholarships and other schooling support programs are available through the Ministry of Education, the Autonomous Regions and the municipalities.

- You have the right to request the service of a sign language interpreter. You may get information about this at your nearest association or federation for the deaf.
